Dick Brown

Dick Brown hails from Cleveland, Ohio, but played his college ball at the University of Toronto and is listed as a non-import. Brown started his career with Hamilton in 1950 and played five seasons (1950-54) with the Tiger-Cats. Individual stats other than points weren't kept in the East until 1954, but in his first four seasons, Brown scored eight touchdowns. Going both ways as a runnng back and a defensive back, Brown picked up an East All-Star as a defensive back in 1953 (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). Brown moved from Hamilton to Toronto in 1955m playeding two a part seasons with the Argos, before finishing his career with Montreal in 1957. Besides playing on offence and defence, Brown was also one of the top punt returns in the East during his career. Brown was third in the East in punt return yards in 1954 with Hamilton and led the East while with Toronto in both 1955 and 1956. 1955 was an especially good season for punt returns as Brown had 614 yards and an 8.3 yard average in an era of no blocking on punt returns. Brown played in one Grey Cup game, as the Tiger-Cats beat Winnipeg 12-6 in the 1953 classic. Brown didn't leave football after his playing days were over as he went on to be an assistant coach and head coach at the University of Guelph. Dick Brown passed away on May 20, 2000.
