Miles Gorrell

Miles Gorrell had one of the longest careers in CFL history, spanning 19 years from 1978 to 1996.  Durability of that sort is unusual and even more so from a lineman playing in the trenches.  Gorrell also rarely missed a game and played every game in each of his last ten seasons.  Gorrell is best known as an excellent offensive lineman, but he started his career as a defensive lineman and even had an interception in his first season.  Gorrell started as a territorial exemption by Calgary in 1978 and played for the Stampeders from 1978 to partway through 1982 when he was traded to Ottawa along with Larry James for future considerations.  Gorrell played only 2 games with Ottawa before being traded to Montral for a third round draft pick in the 1983 draft.  Because of the vagaries of scheduling and byes, Gorrell actually played 17 games in a 16 game season in 1982 (8 for Calgary, 2 for Ottawa and 7 for Montreal).  Gorrell remained with Montral until 1985, picking up Eastern All-Star recognition twice in those years (1983 and 1984).  Montreal seemed to mistakenly think Gorrell's carreer was over as they released hm in September of 1985, but he was promptly signed as a free agent by Hamilton.Gorrell finished he 85 season with the Tiger-Cats and remained with them until 1991.  Gorrell was an Eastern All-Star three times with Hamilton (1986, 1988 and 1989) and an All-Canadian selectin as well in 1989.  In 1986 and 1989, Gorrell was named the top offensive lineman and was the runner-up for league honours.  After the 1991 season, Gorrell was traded to Winnipeg for a third round pick in the 1992 college draft. Gorrell played four seasons (1992 to 1995) with the Bombers and didn't miss a game.  Gorrell became a free agent in February of 1996 and was signed by Hamilton where he played his final season, again not missing a game.  Gorrell was released by Hamilton in February of 1997.
