Ed Henke

Henke had two stints in Canada, mixed in with playing in the states.  His first year in pro football was in 1949 with the Los Angelas Dons of the AAFC.  Henke joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1950.  Henke was a versatile player who could play multiple positions.  With the Dons, he played mainly defensive end, but Winnipeg also used him as an offensive end (6 catches).  With the folding of the AAFC, Henke was drafted by the San Francisoco 49ers of th NFL and he played with them in 1951 and 1952.  After a year out of football for military service in 1953, Henke returned to Canada in 1954 and played two years with Calgary, mainly on defense.  Henke then returned to the states where he played with San Francisco again  from 1956 to 1961 and then with St. Louis in 1962 and 63.
