Pavan was a fourth round draft pick of the Montreal Alouttes in the 1987 CFL College Draft. The Als folded just prior to the start of the 1987 season and was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the dispersal draft. After one season in Winnipeg, Pavan was selected by Ottawa in the equalization draft in 1988.
