Mel Profit

Mel Profit is considered by many to be one of the best tightends in CFL history.  Profit played six years for the Toronto Argos from 1966 to 1971. As a tightend, he was never the primary receiver for the Argos, but he was an excellent blockerr and a dangerous receiver who made a big contribution to the Argo offense.  Profit was a model of durability and consistency, missing only one game in his six season and in his last four seasons, he caught 40, 40, 39 and 39 passes.  Profit was named an East All-Star in each of those years (1968-71) and an All-Canadian in 1971.  Profit was an extemely popular Argo, but his career ended abruptly in training camp in 1972 when Argo coach Leo Cahill decided there wasn't room for an import tightend.
