Joey Walters

Joey Walters is one of the most talented receivers to have played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and is a member of their Plaza of Honour.  Walters actually started his CFL career with Winnipeg in 1977 and played four games for the Bombers before joining Saskatchewan.  Between Winnipeg and the Riders, Walters had 29 catches in 14 games.  In the next three seasons with the Riders from 1978-1980, Walters played only 17 games due to injuries, though he tantalized Rider fans with his potential.  That was especially true in 1979 when Walters played in only 6 games, but had 40 catches for 772 yards.  If you extrapolated those totals to a full 18 game season, Walters would have had 120 catches for 2316 yards!  Finally, in 1981, Walters played a full 16 game season for the Riders and had 91 catches for 1715 yards to win both West and CFL All-Star honours.  Walters upped his catches in 1982 to 102 to go with 1692 yards to repeat both his West and CFL All-Star status.  Unfortunately for the Riders, Walters was a free agent after 1982 and they couldn't come to terms with Walters who went on to play in the USFL with Washington and Orlando.  Walters finished his career in the NFL in 1987 as a replacement player during the strike.
