Alex Webster only played two years with the Montreal Alouettes (1953-54), but Webster is still considered one of the best running backs to play for the Als. Webster played college football at North Carolina State, and was an 11th round draft pick of the Washington Redskins in 1953, but chose to come to Montreal instead. There are no individual stats available for 1953 in the East, but in 1954 WEbster led the East in rushing with 984 yards in a 14 game schedule. Webster also had 23 catches for 376 yards receiving and led the East in kickoff return yardage with 393 more yards. Need more proof of how good Webster was? He had 16 touchdowns in that 1954 season, 10 rushing and 6 receiving to lead the East in scoring with 80 points (touchdowns were worth 5 points in 1954). Also like many players of that era, Webster played both offense and defense and added two interceptions on defense. Webster even filled in as a punter when needed. Put that all together and Webster was an easy choice as an East All-Star in 1954 (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). After 1954, Webster returned to the States and played in the NFL for ten seasons with the New York Giants from 1955 to 1964. Webster ended up with 4638 career yards rushing in the NFL, with his best season coming in 1961 when he ran for 928 yards. After retiring as a player, Webster returned to the Giants as a head coach from 1969 to 1973, winning a UPI Coach of the Year in 1970 when the Giants went 9-5. iWikipedia Article on Alex Webster
