Welch was signed a a free agent in May of 2000. Welch played 15 games for the Argos in 2000, mainly being used on special teams. Toronto released Welch in June of 2001, just prior to the start of the 2001 season. Edmonton sighed Welch on July 25, 2001 and he played three games for them before being released in August.
