Whitley was a first round draft pick of the BC Lions in the 1990 CFL college draft. Whitney also received interest from the NFL and attended the training camp of the New Orleans Saints before being released and joining BC in August of 1990. Whitney played two seasons with the Lions before being released by BC in July of 1992. Calgary signed him as a free agent in August of 1992, but he played onely one game for the Stampeders before being release. Toronto signed Whitney as a free agent in February of 1993, but he was released before playing any regular season games for the Argos. Whitney returned to the CFL in 1994 and had stnts with both Ottawa and Saskatchewan.
