History

Knights of Columbus played in the BC Big Four 1937-39. When the Vancouver Athletic Club Wolves folded in September 1937, it only took a couple of days for the Knights of Columbus to form with the VAC players.

The champions of the BC Big Four had the right to challenge the WIFU champions for the opportunity to represent the west in the Grey Cup. The main reason for not challenging was that season on the west coast often went into December and a challenge would have disrupted the season. The other reason was that players from this era had regular jobs. Any challenge would have meant a trip to Winnipeg which was a three day trip by train. Not all of the players could get one week off work to accommodate the trip. Although a victory against the Blue Bombers was doubtful, someone posed the question ‘What if we actually beat them?’ Could the players be expected to take even more time off work for a trip to Toronto?
