John Amos

After attending Colorado State, Amos had a tryout with the Denver Broncos of the NFL in 1964 and was released. After his release, Amos playe for the Joliet Explorers of the United Football League in 1964. Amos then went to the Continental Football League in 1965 where he played for the Norfolk Neptunes and the Wheeling Ironmen. In 1966, Amos played for the Jersey City Jets and the Waterbury Orbits of the Atlantic Coast Football League. In 1967, Amos had another NFL tryout, this time with the Kansas City Chiefs. Amos may have played a game or two for the BC Lions in 1967, though the official CFL game participation stats don't list him. Also in 1967, Amos played for the Victoria Steelers of the Continental Football League. John Amos went on to be a televison star. He was on the Mary Tyler Moore Show in a minor role (Gordy the weatherman) then later a staring role on Good Times.
