Al Benecick

Al Benecick was an All-Star guard / tackle who played his entire eleven year career (1959-69)with the Saskatchewan Roughriders except for his final year with Edmonton.   The graduate of Syracuse University was a sixth round draft pcik of the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL in 1959, but signed with the Riders.  Benecick won Western All-Star recognition four times, in consecutive years from 1963 to 1966, and also won All-Canadian honours in the last three years. Roughrider fans will remember Benecick as a member of the 1966 Grey Cup winning team.  Offensive linemen don't generate much in the way of statistics, but the people who watched the game recogne talent and Benecick was elected to the Canadian Hall of Fame in 1996.
