Carter was drafted in the fourth round of the 2001 CFL College Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. Carter played only 1 game with the Stampeders in two plus seasons as he was on the practice roster for all of 2001 and on the injury list for ther first 17 games of 2002. In June, 2003, Carter was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
