Anthony (Tony) Cherry

Cherry was a ninth round draft pick in 1986 by the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL.  Cherry signed with BC in May of 1998 and played two seasons with the Lions.  In 1988, Cherry ran for 889 yards in just 12 games as a rookie and was named to the Western and All-Canadian All-Star squads.  Injuries again limited Cherry to just 12 games in his second season in 1989 and his production fell to 521 yards though his passes caught increased substantially from 16 to 36.  Cherry became a free agent after the 1989 season and signed with the Ottaw Rough Riders.  Cherry played only four games for the Riders before being released and then signed by Calgary where he played six games.
