Bob Dean

Bob Dean graduated from Maryland in 1950 where he played his college football, and joined Edmonton in 1954.  Dean played three seasons with the Eskimos, from 1954 to 1956, as a tackle on both sides of the line and as a place kicker.  Edmonton won the Grey Cup in all three years, and Dean played an important part in them, especially the first one.   Everyone remembers Jackie Parker returning the Chuck Hunsinger fumble for a touchdown late in the game. Not so many people remember that only tied the game and it was Dean's convert that gave Edmonton the win.  Converts were much less automatic back then, but Dean had had an exceptional season, hitting 100% of his converts, and he didn't miss this one either.  Most reports have Dean retiring after the 1956 season, but he did play one game for Montreal in 1957.  Dean settled in Edmonton after football, working as a teacher and coaching highschool football.  Teams under Dean's coaching won several Edmonton highschool championships.  Bob Dean passed away on May 10, 2007.
