Al Dekdebrun was born in Buffalo, played his high school football there at Burgard Vocational and then moved on to university at Cornell. Dekdebrun was an All-American in 1944, led the nation in passing in 1945 (1227 yards) and was then the MVP in the East-West game in 1946. From college, Dekdebrun moved on to the pros, playing three seasons in the old All-Amercian Football Conference and the NFL with stops in Chicago. Buffalo, Boston and New York. Dekdebrun came to the CFL in 1949 to play for the Hamilton Wild Cats who were playing that season in the IRFU (Interprovincial Rugby Football Union) or Big 4 which would later become the East Division of the modern CFL. After Hamilton, Dekdebrun moved to Toronto for two seasons (1950-51), winning the Grey Cup with Toronto in 1950. After a year away, Dekdebrun returned to the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes in 1953, and completed his tour of the East by playing for Ottawa in 1954. Unfortunately, official stats are only available for Dekdebrun's final season in 1954. Like many players of that era, Dekdebrun playd both ways, and recorded two interceptions as a defensive back in 1954. For his accomplishments, Dekdebrun was elected to both the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame and the Cornel Hall of Fame. Al Dekdebrun passed away on March 29, 2005.
