Jeff Ga000rcia

Jeff Garcia joined the Calgary Stampeders as a free agent in 1994.  Garcia saw limited action (3 pass attempts) in his rookie season, as Calgary had another pretty good QB by the name of Doug Flutie.  When Flutie got injured in 1995, Garcia stepped into the void very nicely and completed 63.2% of his 364 passes for over 3000 yards and 25 touchdowns which was all good enough to make him a Northern Division All-Star.  With Flutie off to Toronto the following year, Garcia became the number one QB in Calgary and for the next three seasons (1996-1998) he threw more than 500 passes per season with over 4000 yards per season.  Garcia was a Western All-Star in all thre season and an All Canadian in 1998.  In 1997, Garcia was the runner-up for the CFL's Most Outstanding Player.

All of this got the attention of the NFL and when Garcia became a free agent in 1999, he signed with the San Franciso 49ers of the NFL.  Garcia took over as the starting QB for San Francisco in 1999 when starter Steve Young was injured and he played 5 seasons with San Francisco (1999-2003) with three Pro-Bowl appearances. Garcia was released after the 2003 season and spent a year in Cleveland (2004) and Detroit (2005) iwhtout much sucess Garcia signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006 and took over as the starting QB when Donovan McNabb was injured, leading the Eagles to a division title.  Despite that, Garcia was released after the 2006 season and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 2007.

In 2014, the first year of the post Anthony Calvillo era in Montreal, and with the Alouettes struggling, there were rumours going around the CFL that Garcia would return to play QB for the Alouettes. Garcia did indeed return to the CFL and the Alouettes partway through 2014, but it was as the team's quarterback coach and not as a player. Montreal was strugglingat QB with Troy Smith and various others at QB until Garcia arrived and helped turn things around. Jonathon Crompton was installed as the starting QB and theAlouettes rallied to make the playoffs and get as far as the East finalbefore losing to Hamilton.
