Metro Gerela

Metro Gerela is best known for his work in soccer in Vancouver and around British Columbia, both as a player and a coach. Gerela's love of soccer also took him around the world, including a stint as the coach of the South African woman's national team. Gerela did, however, make a detour into the world of football.  Gerela was a soccer style kicker (naturally!) who could kick with either foot.  Gerela had tryouts with the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers of the NFL  In 1968, after his release by Green Bay, Gerela joined the Montreal Alouettes for two games. Metro Gerela had two brothers who were also football placekickers.  Ted Gerela played with the BC Lions and Roy Gerala in the NFL.
