Don Gilbert

Don Gilbert was an outstanding athlete, starring in Basketball and Football in highschool in Buffalo.  In his senior year, Gilbert was named the Most Valuable Player in the Buffalo Public Schools, playing Guard in Basketball and QB in Football.  After highschool, Gilbert went on to play football at he University of Buffalo where he was the starting QB in his senior year, and name the Athlete of the Year for BU.  Gilbert joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1965, where he was used mainly as a defensive back.  After playing one final season with Winnipeg in 1968, Gilbert became a successful coach at the University of Ottawa, winning a national championship and a coach of the year award.
