Out of Villanova, Don Luzzi joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1958 and had a long distinguished career that last 12 seasons, all with the Stamps. Luzzi is best remembered as an outstanding defensive tackle, winning five West All-Stars (1958, 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1966) and three CFL All-Stars in 1962, 1963 and 1966 (there were no CFL All-Stars until 1962). Luzzi, however also went both way early in his career and won a pair of West All-Stars in 1958 and 1961 at offensive tackle. Those All-Star honours make Luzzi one of a rare group of players who won both an offensive and a defensive All-Stars in the same season (1958). With that fact, it is hardly surprizing that Luzzi was named the top lineman in both the West and CFL in 1958. Not bad for a rookie season eh? Luzzi was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1986. Don Luzzi passed away on October 30, 2005. No official games played stats were kept in the West until 1964. Defenseive tackle and quarterback sack stats were not kept for these years.
