John Pointer

Pointer had a tryout with the NFL Cincinnati Bengals before signing with Edmonton as a free agent in 1981.  Pointer only played one game with Edmonton in his initial year and was traded in June of 1982 along with receiver Mike Smith to Toronto for QB Mike Williams.  Statistically, 1982 was not a real impressive year for Pointer (1 interception, 1 fumble recovery and 1 sack), but no tackle stats were kept in 1982 and Pointer was an East division All-Star.  Toronto traded Pointer to Winnipeg in June of 1983 in a four for one deal as the Argos got DT Charles Williams, LB David Pearson, LB Scott Oliver and C Todd Turnbull.  Priestner's had his best season statistically in 1983 (3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions and 5 sacks) though no All-Star recognition.  Pointer became a free agent after the 1983 season and signed with Montreal in September of 1984 and was also with the Concordes for 1985.  Pointer was then traded to Saskatchewan for SB Chris DeFrance, but did not play any games for the Riders.
