After playing his college football at mighty Ohio State, Bob Shaw played six years in the NFL with the St. Louis / Los Angelas Rams and the Chicago Cardinals from 1945-50. In 1950, Shaw caught five touchdown passes in one game, a record that has since been tied twice(Kelvin Winslow and Jerry Rice), but not beaten. Shaw came to .Canada and the CFL in 1951 with the Calgary Stampeders and led the West in Scoring in both 1951 and 1952. Shaw was second in receiving in both years, just missing the thousand yard mark in his first season and breaking it in the second. Shaw was named a West All-Star for that performance in 1952. Besides playing offensive end, Shaw also handled placekicking duties and kickoffs. Early in the 1953 season, Shaw was traded East to the Toronto Argonauts, but there are no stats available for the East until 1954. After retiring as a player, Shaw went into coaching, first at the college level in the States and then in the NFL with Baltimore where he was th pass offense / receivers coach when a Johnny Unitus led team won the NFL title in 1958. Shaw later returned to the CFL in 1963 to become the Head Coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for two seasons (1963 & 1964). Shaw then moved to Toronto where he was the head coach for two more seasons, 1964 and 1965. Shaw then returned to the NFL with coaching stops in San Francisco, Buffalo and New Orleans. Shaw's next stop in the CFL was about ten years later when he was the General Manager of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for four seasons (1976-79), and took on the head coaching role as well for 1976-77. Shaw was named the CFL coach of the year in 1976. Bob Shaw passed away on April 9, 2011.
