Smith signed as a free agent with the expansion Saqcremento Gold Miners in 1994. He moved with the team to San Antonio for 1995. After the failure of the American t eams, he bacme a free agent and signed with Winnipeg. Smith played only one game with Winnipeg before being traded in August of 1996 to Saskatchewan for a third round draft pick in the 1997 college draft. Saskatchewan released Smith in November of 1996.
