Byron Townsend

Byron Townsend played his college ball at the University of Texas,  where he was elected to their Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Prior to going to university, Townsend was a mamber of the 1946 Texas High School Football Champions as a member of Odessa High School. Townsend did two years in the army before joining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1954. It was a short but productive CFL career as Townsend rushed for 446 yards in just over half a season for the Bombers.

Townsend went on to be the head coach of Texas Football League (minor pro) Odessa/Midland Comets in 1\966.

Byron Townsend passed away on January 13, 2013.
