Reg Wheeler

Reg Wheeler's nickname was "Mr. Hamilton" and it was very appropriate. Wheeler was born in Hamilton, worked 46 years at Dofasco in Hamilton and served for 28 years as an alderman for the city.

Wheeler was a tackle as a football player and in those days, that meant playing both ways. Wheeler first played with the Hamilton Tigers of the IRFU / Big Four (which would later become the East Division of the modern CFL) in 1939 and 1940. After the war, Wheeler played with the Hamilton Wildcats of the ORFU from 1944-48. The 1948 Wildcats played in the IRFU when the Tigers and Wildcats switched leagues. In 1950, the two t eams would merge to form the modern Tiger-Cats.

Reg Wheeler passed away on October 21, 2012.
