1977 GREY CUP GAME AT MONTREAL (Sunday, November 27 - 68,318)
MONTREAL ALOUETTES 41, EDMONTON ESKIMOS 6 - The Grey Cup was known as the "Ice Bowl" since the field was frozen in a sheet of ice. There was controversy after the game when the Eskimos were wearing normal cleats, while the Alouettes were wearing staples on their cleats giving them a huge advantage over the icy field. The Alouettes' Sonny Wade was named the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Player on Offense, as he passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns. DT Glen Weir was named the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Player on Defence. The Alouettes' Don Sweet was named Grey Cup's Most Valuable Canadian. His 23 points, which also included converts on all three Montreal touchdowns, still remains stapled into the CFL’s Grey Cup record book.
